James Donald Okuley age 78, of Ottawa and formerly of New Bavaria, died Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at the Meadows of Delphos.
His Legacy… Jim was born October 15, 1944 to Paul and Elizabeth (Cunningham) Okuley in New Bavaria. He graduated from Miller City High School in 1963. He enlisted with the US Army. On May 21, 1966, he married Marlene Schroeder. Jim was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria and the New Bavaria AMVETS. He was a self-employed carpenter. He thoroughly loved being outdoors, whether it was playing golf, fishing or simply watching the deer in the back yard. Jim preached being active. He was always seen riding his bike or working out at the YMCA (which he did 3 days a week for 25 years).
His Family… He is survived by his loving wife Marlene; children: Julie (Tony) Schroeder, Miller City and Brian (Jill) Okuley, Holgate; 4 grandsons: Hayden, Anderson, Lincoln and Dalton; and siblings: Marvelle Niese, Ottawa, Ronald Okuley, New Bavaria and Jeanette Younker, Huber Heights, OH. He was preceded in death by a brother Kenny and brother-in-law Manny Niese.
His Farewell Services… Friends will be received in the Zachrich Family Funeral Home, 114 William Street, Holgate on Thursday from 3-7:00 pm and at the church one hour before the service. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, February 24, 2023 at 10:30 am in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria with Father Nick Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors accorded by the New Bavaria VFW and AMVETS and Holgate American Legion. Contributions in memory of Jim can be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
