Arthur H. Botjer age 89, 0f Holgate, died Saturday morning at the Laurels of Defiance.
His Legacy… He was born January 9, 1929 to William and Hilda (Kruse) Botjer in Deshler. On May 7, 1950, he married Betty Groll in St. Stephen Lutheran Church, rural Defiance. At a young age, Art worked on the family farm. As an adult, he worked for General Motors as a core setter for 38 years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Holgate where he was formerly an elder and usher. Art was a Detroit Tiger fan and also enjoyed Polka dancing and was a member of the Ohio Polka Boosters.
His Family… He is survived by 3 daughters: Barbara (Lonnie) Gerschutz, Defiance, Debra (Mark) Oberhaus, Napoleon and Candace Botjer, Defiance; 5 grandchildren: Lonnie Gerschutz, Joe Gerschutz, Chad Oberhaus, Bridgett Volkert and Melissa Hudley; 11 great grandchildren: Quinton, Cole, Gracey, Blake, Christopher, Gavin, Mallory, Hannah, Zander, Gabriel, and Graham. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty December 9, 1990 and siblings, Laura Rohda and Curly Botjer.
His Farewell Services… Friends will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home, 114 William Street, Holgate on Wednesday from 2-8 pm and one hour before the church service. The celebration of Arthur’s life will be on Thursday at 11:00 am in St. John Lutheran Church, Holgate with Reverend Theodore Rellstab officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stephen Lutheran Cemetery, rural Defiance. Contributions made in Art’s memory can be made to St. John Lutheran Church, Laurels of Defiance or a charity of your choice.
