Clifford James Simon
July 4, 1932 — January 27, 2017
Clifford James Simon was born in Junction, Paulding County, Ohio, on July 4, 1932, and the son of James Simon and Allie B. Shirey) Simon. He attended Continental-Palmer High before entering the U.S. Army in 1950. He served in the Korean War 1950-1953. On February 20, 1954 he married Nona Rae Grant at Wisterman E. U. B. Church in Wisterman, Ohio.
He is survived by two sons; Rick L. Simon, Milan, Michigan; and Kevin L. Simon of Miller City, Ohio. Also surviving is a sister, Trudy Rakes of Defiance, and a stepbrother, Cleon Shumaker of Pleasant Lake, Indiana and four grandchildren; Alissa, Scott, Aaron, Amanda and three great-grandchildren; Anakah, Scott Jr. and Lyla Jane.
He worked at GM, Dresser Industries, co-owner of Simon’s Restaurant, Hamler; and worked 36 years at Campbell’s Soup Co., Napoleon, retiring in 1994. He was a mechanic there. He was a life member of Hamler American Legion, Hamler, Ohio, and AMVETS Post 1313 of Napoleon, Ohio, and Campbell Soup Retirees. He was also a member of the Holgate United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister, Joy Ann and stepmother, Ruth O. Simon.
Clifford and Nona resided in Hamler, Ohio for 33 years, before moving to Defiance in 2001. February 20, 2014, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends.
Friends will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home, 114 William Street, Holgate on Sunday from 2-8 pm. On Monday, January 30, 2017 there will be a service at 10:00 am in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance with military honors. A memorial service will follow in the Holgate United Methodist Church at 11:00 am with Reverend Susan St. Peter officiating. Memorials to the Holgate United Methodist Church.
