Elmer E. Hastedt age 90, entered heaven surrounded by his family in his Holgate home on Friday evening, January 25, 2013.
His Legacy… He was born January 6, 1923 to Eddie and Alma (Mahlman) Hastedt in Hamler. Elmer was a farmer all his life and also an owner of Buchholz & Hastedt Grain Company. In January of 1944, Shorty enlisted with the United States Navy. After serving his time during WWII, he married Dorothy M. Miller on July 14, 1946 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Napoleon Twp. He was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hamler, Sunday school superintendent and teacher (20 years) and church Elder. Shorty was a lifetime member of the Ward L. Adams Post 454, Ridgeville Corners, life member of AMVETS, Napoleon, VFW, Napoleon, Ohio State Patrol Auxiliary (20 years) and a 20 year Monroe Twp. trustee. Above all he was a wonderful father and grandfather loving his Savior.
His Family… He will be missed by his loving wife Dorothy of 66 years; son, Bob (Deb) Hastedt, Hamler; and daughters, Judy (George) Poulson, Holgate and Mary (William) Sitton, Baton Rouge; grandchildren, Michelle (Tim) Franks, Christopher (Annie) Hastedt, Troy (Michelle) Hastedt, Seth Sitton and Shena Sitton; great grandchildren, Brianna Reinhardt, Steven Franks, Aaron Hastedt, Autumn Hastedt, Zach Hastedt, Eli Hastedt and Kalyn Hastedt; and a sister, Norma Bostelman, Defiance. Elmer was preceded in death by a great grandson Andrew Hastedt.
His Farewell Services… Friends will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home, 114 William Street, Holgate on Monday from 2-5 and 6-8 pm and 1 hour before the church service. The celebration of Shorty’s life will be on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at 11:00 am in Immanual Lutheran Church, Hamler with Reverend Douglas DeWitt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors accorded by the Ridgeville American Legion. Contributions can be made in Shorty’s memory to Hospice of Henry County or Immanuel Lutheran Church .
