Eugene “Gene” Albert Giesige age 74, of Holgate died early Thursday morning, April 17, 2014 at the Henry County Hospital.
His Legacy… Gene was born October 8, 1939 to Charles and Edna Giesige in New Bavaria. He graduated from Holgate High School in 1957. He was enlisted in the Marine Corp from 1957 to 1959. Gene was married to Marilyn Stechschulte for 25 years. He worked for the Village of Holgate as the Superintendent of Water and Sewer and Village Administrator, from 1969 until retiring at the end of 2000. He continued to serve as a councilman until the end of 2013. Gene was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria and its choir. Gene was a New Bavaria volunteer fireman from 1965-2000. He was a loyal member of the Holgate Lions Club, Raymond Diemer VFW New Bavaria Post 8847. In his spare time, Gene enjoyed playing string bass in jazz bands, spending time with his family, grilling, and serving others.
His Family… Surviving is his mother Edna; his daughters, Jenny (Abel) Quintero, Lebanon, Lori (Jim) Haynes, Centerburg, and Chris Giesige, Mifflinburg, PA; his son, Pete (Diana) Giesige, New Bavaria; and girlfriend, Cindy Gerdeman, New Bavaria; siblings, Vicki (Larry) Samlow, Holgate, Bill (Kathy) Giesige, Ayersville, Patty (Jim) Giesige-Walker, Norco, CA, Sam Giesige, Middletown, Connie Mitchell, Indianapolis, IN, Ginny (Steve) Robinson, Indianapolis, IN, Chuck (Jan) Giesige, Milwaukee, WI, Ted (Beth) Giesige, Rohnert Park, CA, Kathy (Jeff) Houser Giesige, Glen Haven, CO, and Nick (Julie) Giesige, Holgate; and 8 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.
Farewell Services… Friends and family will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home, 114 William Street, Holgate (419 264 0600) on Sunday from 2-8 pm. The Rosary will be recited that evening at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30am on Monday, April 21, 2014 in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria with Father Nick Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by the Holgate American Legion and New Bavaria VFW and Amvets. Memorial contributions made in Gene’s memory can be made to the Save Chris Transplant Fund .
