Janet E. Baker

Jan Baker, 81, of Defiance passed away peacefully Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the Laurels of Defiance.

Jan married Gayle Baker, who preceded her in death, on April 25, 1964, in Mansfield OH. She loved Bake dearly and has missed him for 14 years. She retired from the Defiance County Job & Family Services in 2009. After retirement Jan and her granddaughters would have “girls’ night” frequently. Junk food eating, movie watching and fun were on the agenda. Jan loved to spend time with her family and always took everything in stride. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and everyone knew it by the number of decorations in her house and the QVC boxes on her steps. Her grandchildren recently introduced her to Amazon, so those packages were appearing also.

Jan is survived by her children Lori (Matt) Mckenzie of Defiance, Vince (Heather) Baker of Defiance, and Tony (Sheri) Baker of Oakwood. Her brother Rob (Vickie) Salyers of Mansfield, OH also survives. Her 6 grandchildren, whom she loved dearly and who will miss her: Makayla Baker, Defiance, Brianna Baker, Columbus, Meredith (Tyler) Lange, Napoleon, Abigayle Baker, Defiance, Logan Baker, Oakwood, and Stephen Baker, Defiance. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Thelma Jordan and David Salyers, her sisters Dee Stewart, Jean Gantz, Maxine Salyers, Maryann Salyers and brother Richard Salyers.

Jan wished to have a celebration of life with no services at this time. The family will be planning a special day to celebrate her.
