John Sheldon "Red" Burke age 86, of Holgate, died Saturday morning, March 25, 2017 at Genacross, Napoleon.
His Legacy… John was born February 22, 1931 to Robert U. and Goldie (Collins) Burke in Van Lear, KY. On November 20, 1957 he married Minnie Ellen (Trusty). They had 4 children Alfreda (Don) Silva, Defiance, Drema (Don) Lawrence, Paris, TX, Charlene (Tom) Gray, Napoleon, Timothy (Bobbi) Burke, Wauseon. On October 27, 1990 he married Sharron S. Wozniak. John was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He worked at General Motors and retired after 39 years. He was a member of the Moose, Eagles, American Legion and Elks. His passion was county music. He played all over the country in many bands and also had his own band. He liked to play the guitar and sing.
He is survived by his wife, Sharron; children, 18 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and brothers, Paul Burke, Richmond, VA, and Willis Burke, Van Lear, KY. John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Lowell, Angus, Bob, and Wayne; and a sister Wonda Dye.
His Farewell Services… Friends will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home, 114 William Street, Holgate Wednesday, from 11:00 am until the funeral service at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in Pleasant Township Cemetery on Road 16C, New Bavaria. Contributions made in John’s name can be made to Zachrich Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.
