Joseph M. Wenzinger, age 93, of New Bavaria died Friday morning, January 2, 2015 at Vancrest Healthcare Center of Holgate.
His Legacy… He was born October 23, 1921 to Mathias and Gertrude (Steffan) Wenzinger in Pleasant Township, New Bavaria, OH. On February 9, 1946, he married Viola Roof at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Miller City. Joe was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria and a farmer all of his life. He was a life member of the William F. Helmke American Legion Post 340 and a charter member of Raymond Diemer VFW Post 8847. Joe was a charter member of the New Bavaria VFD and a very proud member of the 1937 Holgate High School State Championship Baseball team.
His Family… He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years; children, Dennis (Jan), New Bavaria, Deborah McDonald, Tecumseh, MI, Bonnie (Tom) Rosebrock, Hamler, Daniel (Sue) Cary, NC, and Cheryl (David) Marion, Rockford, MI; 11 grandchildren; 1 step grandchild; 13 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; and sister Margaret (Marge) Deeks, Port Clinton. He was preceded in death by brothers, Harold (Doc), Paul, Leo, Carl; and sisters, Rita Burkhart and Audrey Vorst.
His Funeral Farewell… Friends will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home, Holgate on Monday from 3-8 pm. The Fireman’s Last Call Service will be held at 7 pm and the rosary will be that evening at 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 10:30 am in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria with Fathers George Wenzinger and Nick Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Contributions made in Joe’s memory can be made to Putnam County Hospice or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
