Holgate’s Hometown Super Hero Layne Knapp, age 5, fought a courageous battle of childhood cancer. He died on Sunday evening, December 4, 2016 at the Toledo Hospital surrounded by family.
His Legacy… Layne was born December 16, 2010 to Lindsey Rothman and Joe Knapp in Defiance. He was a kindergartener at Holgate Elementary and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Layne enjoyed playing with his sisters and friends, superheros, building with Legos, and driving his cop car.
His Family… He is survived by his mom, Lindsey (Mike Medina), dad, Joe; sisters, Savannah and Ella; grandparents, Jeff and Annette Rothman, Holgate, Rick and Sue Thayer, Napoleon, and Steve and Laura Knapp, Williams County; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Layne was preceded in death by several great grandparents and many great aunts and uncles.
His Super Hero Farewell Services… Friends and family will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home, 114 William Street, Holgate on Thursday from 5-8 pm, and on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Layne will lie in state 1 hour prior to the service from 10:00 am to 11:00 am in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 11:00 am with Father Nick Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Holgate. In lieu of flowers, contributions made in Layne’s memory can be made to ProMedica Toledo Children’s Hospital, Nationwide Children’s Hospital or the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Ohio.
