Mary Jones

Mary Elizabeth (Newton) Jones, 102, of Defiance, passed into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Tuesday morning, April 12, 2016 at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

Her Legacy… Mary was born in Hamler on September 16, 1913 to John and Amelia (Guilliom) Newton.  She was baptized into the Catholic faith at St. Paul Catholic Church, Hamler. She married Emerson Jones on January 23, 1932.  She lived in Hamler, Wauseon, and Ottawa before moving to Defiance.  Her favorite pastime was playing cards with her children, grandchildren, and friends.  She always had a bowl of candy for her visitors.  Her proudest accomplishment was raising her family.

Her Family… Mary is survived by: sons Ron (Bernadette), New Bavaria and Robert (Cathy), Napoleon as well as her daughter-in-law Joann Jones, Defiance.  She had 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.  Mary was preceded in death by her husband Emerson, son Wayne, and grandchildren Mary Steyer, Sandra Jones, and Nicholas Jones, as well as her 11 brothers and sisters.

Her Farewell Services… Friends will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home, Holgate on Thursday from 2-5 and 6-8 pm.  The Rosary will be said that evening at 7:30 pm.  Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, April 15, 2016 at 11:00 am in St. Paul Catholic Church, Hamler.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Contributions made in Mary’s memory can be made to St. Paul Catholic Church, the Filling Home of Mercy or a charity of one’s choice.
