Melvin Julius Hoffman, a dedicated farmer, peacefully passed away on June 9 2024, at Vancrest of Holgate. He was born on July 25, 1932, in rural Holgate to Julius and Pauline (Welz) Hoffman and graduated from Holgate High School in 1950. Melvin proudly served in the United States Army and received a Korean Service Ribbon along with 2 Bronze Service Stars for his honorable dedication. His love for farming extended beyond a career; it was a true passion that defined him. His hobbies included bowling, playing baseball, and softball in his younger days, and later in life, he found joy in watching and listening to baseball games. Melvin's commitment to his work and hobbies reflected his strong work ethic and genuine nature. In the presence of both of his loving daughters, Melvin peacefully transitioned to the next chapter. He is now reunited with his wife, Doris (Kagy) Hoffman, who he married on October 3, 1964. His infant daughter, Rebecca, also awaits him in peace.
Melvin is survived by his daughters: Chris (Todd) Kelly of Holgate and Deb Wagner of New Bavaria. His granddaughters: Natalie (Cody) Hullinger and Lindsey (Kyle) Brinkman will carry forward his legacy. Additionally, Melvin leaves behind great-granddaughter Sophie Brinkman and anticipates the arrival of another great-granddaughter from the Hullinger family in November. Melvin is also remembered by sisters: Erma Biler of Holgate and Nelda Garrison of Kokomo, IN. His siblings Ruth Westrick, Eugene Hoffman, and Paul Hoffman preceded him in death along with his son-in-law Greg Wagner.
Services to celebrate Melvin's life will be held at the Zachrich Family Funeral Home in Holgate for visitation on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 from 2:00 - 8:00 PM. A Celebration of Life ceremony will take place at Holgate Community Church on Thursday, June 13 starting at 10:30 AM with visitation from 9:30 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Cole Cemetery with military honors. Memorial contributions can be made to the Holgate Community Church or a charity of your choice. Melvin Hoffman's life exemplified dedication, love, and humility. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
