Nelson Franklin Yaichner age 88, died early Wednesday morning, March 18, 2015 in his Napoleon home.
His Legacy… He was born September 16, 1926 to John and Lillian (Rettig) Yaichner in Napoleon. Nelson was drafted into the United States Army and served from 1950 to 1952. He was attached to the 703rd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion. Once he was back home, on October 22, 1953 he married Elizabeth “Betty” Brandt in St. John’s Reformed Church, Holgate. Nelson was formerly a service station attendant. Later he was employed by the State of Ohio for 23 years; plowing snow, mowing and maintaining roadways. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Holgate. Nelson was also a member of the Napoleon American Legion Post 300.
His Family… He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years; children, James (Dawn) Yaichner, Clear Lake, IN and Karen Yaichner, Liberty Center; 2 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and a sister, Gloria Zimmerman, Birmingham, AL. Nelson was preceded in death by siblings; infant sister, sisters, Vera Hillis and Leota Schuette and brothers Marvin Yaichner and Floyd Yaichner.
His Farewell Services… Friends will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home, 114 William Street, Holgate on Friday from 2-5 and 6-8 pm and again 1 hour before the church service. The Celebration of Nelson’s life is on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at St. John's United Church of Christ, Holgate, starting at 11:00 am with Reverend Dan Sather officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Contributions made in Nelson’s memory can be made to St. John’s United Church of Christ, Hospice of Henry County or to a charity of your choice.
