Pastor Irvin C. Leidy, age 68, died Sunday night in his Stryker home. He was born January 29, 1949 to Irvin Ridgely Leidy and Dorothy Mildred (Duty) Leidy. He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife, Judith (Scharer) Leidy, mother, sister Rita (Les) Rogers, brother Rick (Faye) Leidy, brother Doug (Kathy) Leidy, daughters Ruth (Gary) Evans, Heidi Clayton, Heather Krause, Sarah Leidy, son Matthew (Vicki) Leidy, step sons, Joshua (Julia) Diehl and Daniel (Erin) Diehl, six grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren.
Irvin was very active in church since the age of 5. He was confirmed in the Memorial United Church of Christ, Toledo at the age of 14. He was a local licensed pastor of Pleasant Bend United Methodist Church in New Bavaria serving from January 1, 2005 until the present. He was the president of the Walbridge Church softball league for three years. He was an avid softball player for Grace United Methodist Church for 15 years. He was a charter member of the Bettsville Exchange Club. During the time of that Exchange Club was active, he held the position of secretary for two years. He was the secretary of the Bettsville Youth Center for several years, and also helped get it started. He worked many minimum wage jobs, but was able to provide for his five children. In his younger years he and his dad spent Saturday’s steaming stamps from envelopes for their stamp collections. He graduated from Lake High School in 1967 and from Owens Community College in 1969 with an Associate Degree in Accounting and with an Associate Degree in Computer Science in 1970. He also loved his dogs Yoda, Harley, Zeke and Little Bear.
Friends are invited to the Pleasant Bend United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 22, 2017 for a Celebration of Irv’s Life at 5:00 pm with Pastor Rae Lynn Schleif officiating. Contributions made in Irv’s memory can be made to the Pleasant Bend United Methodist Church.
