R. Charlene (Swihart) Michaelis
August 14, 1932 — October 8, 2015
R. Charlene Michaelis age 83, of Hamler passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at the Vancrest Healthcare Center of Holgate.
Her Legacy… She was born August 14, 1932 to Pete and Fern (Wingate) Swihart in Leipsic. On July 19, 1951 she married Edwin Michaelis in Hope Lutheran Church. Charlene was a teller for over 50 years at the Hamler State Bank, a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Hamler, a member of Hamler American Legion Auxiliary Post 262 and New Bavaria VFW Auxiliary. She was a past board member of the Hamler Library. Charlene was in two bowling leagues and played cards with two different clubs. She enjoyed all sports but above all she enjoyed watching college basketball and Ohio State Football.
Her Family… She is survived by her husband of 64 years, her daughter Karen Michaelis, sister, Hazel Parman, Fremont, OH and Marian Buchholz, Hamler and many nieces and nephews. Charlene was preceded in death by her son Ken Michaelis and brothers, Glenn and Lloyd “Pete” Swihart.
Her Farewell Services… Friends will be welcomed into the Zachrich Funeral Home, 114 William Street, Holgate on Sunday from 2-7 pm and again 1 hour before the service at church. The Celebration of Charlene’s Life will be on Monday, October 12, 2015 at 11:00 am in Hope Lutheran Church with Reverend Keith Hunsinger officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Contributions made in Charlene’s memory can be made to Hope Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
