Robert Carl Koenig

Robert Carl Koenig age 94, of New Bavaria, died Friday morning, September 14, 2018 at the Defiance Area In-patient Hospice Center, Defiance.

His Legacy… He was born August 24, 1924 to Karl and Ruby (Smith) Koenig in New Bavaria.  Bob enlisted with the United States Army in 1944.  He was a gunner in the European Theatre.  Eight months after returning to American soil, he married Lola Pauline Bartz on June 11, 1946.  Bob was a grain and dairy farmer.  He was a member of the Pleasant Bend United Methodist Church and was a church trustee, life member of the William F. Helmke American Legion Post 340, Raymond Diemer VFW Post 8847, and Napoleon DAV.  He was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Defiance.  Bob was a former director of the Farmers Elevator, Henry County Farm Bureau, a Pleasant Ridge 4-H Club advisor, and formerly on the Pleasant Township Zoning Appeals Board.  Bob thoroughly enjoyed his draft horses.  He took them to the Henry County Fair for 30 years.  Bob was an enthusiastic card player.

His Family… He is survived by his daughters: Susan (Roger) Junge, New Bavaria, Beth (Edward) Clausing, Napoleon, and Peggy (Timothy) Brinkman, Holgate; seven grandchildren: Christopher (Joanne) Junge, Todd (Melany) Junge, Megan (Toby) Spengler, Mark (Ashley) Clausing, Matthew (Jen) Clausing, Emily (Jaymes Maciejewski) Brinkman and Kyle Brinkman; and 11 great grandchildren: Calvin Junge, Cecily Junge, William Junge, Adeline Spengler, Thaddeus Spengler, Titus Spengler, Evalyn Clausing, Elijah Clausing, Everett Clausing, Nolan Clausing and Jack Clausing.  Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife Lola on November 20, 2006 and his half-sister, Greta Keys.

His Farewell Services… Friends will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home, 114 William Street, Holgate on Monday from 2-5 and 6-8 pm.  The Celebration of Bob’s life will be on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 in the Pleasant Bend United Methodist Church at 11:00 am with Jim Brown officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Defiance at 12:30 pm with military honors accorded by the Holgate American Legion and the New Bavaria VFW.  Contributions made in Bob’s memory can be made to The Gideons International, the Henry County Ag Society or a charity of your choice.
