Robert L. Lane, age 74, of Holgate, died in his home Saturday, January 10, 2015 surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer.
His legacy…. He was born February 23, 1940 to the late Perry C. and Clara (Berkes) Lane. He joined the U. S. Marine Corps at age 18. While in the Marines, he met Faye Marvin and they married September 20, 1958. They celebrated 31 years of marriage before her passing in 1988. On January 21, 1995, he married Connie (Rothman) Johnson, who survives. Robert served in the Marines for six years, serving in the Military Police and as a Marine supply sergeant. He served in the Vietnam War. Robert worked at General Motors for over 25 years and was a supervisor in the Finishing Department #116. Robert was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved telling stories of his adventures. He enjoyed teaching others about shooting and gun safety. Bob was a proud Ohio State and Holgate Tigers fan. Above all, he loved spending time with and spoiling his grandchildren. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the American Legion, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Holgate.
His family… He is survived by his loving wife Connie; children, Brad Lane, Newport, MI, Laura Arckeske, Sheridan, Wyoming; stepchildren, Monica (Doug) Mangas, Holgate, Melissa (James) Faber, New Bavaria, and Eric (Yvonne) Johnson, Perrysburg; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; brother, Melvin (Miriam) Lane, Napoleon; sisters, Carolyn (David) Bost, Palmetto, FL and Viola Curdes, Thousand Palms, CA; and sister-in-law, Jennie Badertocher. He was preceded in death by his former wife Faye; infant son Dean; his parents; brothers, Harvey, Ervin, Kenneth, and Carl; sisters, Le Vaun Behnfeldt, Virginia Kammeyer, and Edith Lane.
His farewell… Friends will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home Tuesday, January 13, 2015 from 2-5 and 6-8. A rosary service will be held at 7:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10:30am in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Holgate, with Father Nick Cunningham officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Holgate. Memorials in Bob’s memory can be made to the American Cancer Society, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, or Henry County Hospice.
