Ruth K. Schuller age 94, of Ottawa, died early Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at the Meadows of Ottawa. She was born April 30, 1930 to the late Arthur and Martha Schuller. Also proceeding her in death are brothers Melvin, Norbert, Donald and Kenneth Schuller; along with sisters Helen Teeter, Lillian Rall and Martha Ann Caza. Surviving siblings are Lenora Kaufman (Ottawa OH), Sharon Dishong (Holgate OH) and Arthur James Schuller (Cape Coral FL).
Ruth attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Bavaria. After she graduated from Holgate High School, Ruth entered the convent in Tiffin OH. Ruth spent 40 years in the Nursing Career in the Mercy Order and the Veterans Administration. She was one of the three Head Nurses who opened St. Charles Hospital in Oregon OH. Her nursing career took her to hospitals in Ohio, Washington, Panama, Indiana and Florida. Ruth lived 20+ years in Panama and did mission trips to Peru. While there she wrote a poem called “My Churango” about an instrument she purchased there. This led to her writing four poetry books with two of them available on Amazon.
Ruth was one of the world’s most giving people. She would take gifts given to her back to Panama and give to others less fortunate. Along the way, she gave it all away. Ruthie was truly something special! A memorial mass will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 10:30 am with Father Nick Cunningham. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Zachrich Family Funeral Home of Holgate.
