Stephen “Steve” Baker age 58, died early Wednesday morning, June 6, 2018 in his rural Hamler home after a year battling cancer.
His Legacy… He was born February 16, 1960 to Robert and Gladys (Sanford) Baker in Defiance. He graduated from Holgate High School and then received his bachelors from Aurora University. On June 14, 2003, he married Paula Rutter in Harvest Fellowship Church. He was the technology coordinator for 20 plus years at the Patrick Henry Schools. Steve was a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Defiance and Harvest Fellowship Church, Hamler. In Steve’s spare time (heehee), he enjoyed running, hiking, the outdoors in general, farming and traveling. More than anything, Steve enjoyed spending time with the grandkids.
His Family… He is survived by his loving wife Paula; children: Jamie, Amy, Teresa, William “Drew” and Thomas; parents: Robert and Gladys; 5 grandkids: Dalton, Gladys, Leona, Vivian and Willow; and siblings: Nancy (Dan) Gerken, Luke (Kim) Baker, Beverly Junge, Samuel (Nancy) Baker, Timothy Baker, Philip (Rolande) Baker, and Amy (Matt) Dimmer. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, James Junge.
His Farewell Services… Friends will be received in the Zachrich Funeral Home on Friday from 2-5 and 6-8 pm. Burial will be private. The celebration of Steve’s life will be on Saturday at 11:00 am in Harvest Fellowship Church, Hamler with Pastor James Erven officiating. Contributions made in Steve’s memory can be made to Henry County Hospice or to the family for development of a Patrick Henry scholarship.
