William “Bill” Giesige age 79, passed away Friday night, May 19, 2023, in his Ayersville residence surrounded by family.
His Legacy… Bill was born July 27, 1943 to Charles and Edna (Okuley) Giesige in Holgate. He graduated from Holgate High School. On January 22, 1964 he enlisted with the United States Navy and served until March 1967. On August 19, 1967, he married Kathy Schuller in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria. He was employed by General Motors for 40 years as a millwright. He was also a volunteer fireman for Auglaize Township and member of the VFW New Bavaria post 8847. Bill cherished watching his kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events and vacationing with Kathy and close friends. He was a lifelong Cleveland Indians fan and enjoyed collecting Stroh’s beer memorabilia and nutcrackers. He will be remembered for his elaborate Christmas lights and holiday displays. Bill’s Abraham Lincoln Museum was enjoyed by its many contributors and visitors. In his spare time, Bill loved tinkering in his workshop.
His Family… He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy, and their four children: Rob (Karen) Giesige, Defiance, Angie (Steve) Kromenacker, Toledo, Chad Giesige, Ayersville and Annette (Aaron) May, Dayton; 5 grandchildren: Tyler, Spencer, Kyle, Paige and Cadence and siblings: Vicki (Larry) Samlow, Holgate, Patty (Jim) Giesige-Walker, Roseville, CA, Sam Giesige, Holgate, Connie Mitchell, Indianapolis, IN, Ginny (Steve) Robinson, Indianapolis, IN, Chuck (Jan) Giesige, Atlanta, GA, Ted (Beth) Giesige, Rohnert Park, CA, Kathy (Jeff) Houser Giesige, Glen Haven, CO and Nick (Julie) Giesige, Holgate. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gene Giesige.
His Farewell Services… Family and friends will be received in the Zachrich Family Funeral Home, 114 William Street, Holgate on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 from 3-8 pm with the rosary being said at 2:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday at 10:30 am in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria with Father Dave Tscherne officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. Memorial contributions can be made to Wounded Warrior Project or CHP Hospice.
